Classic Camera Solutions

If you have a camera and it is more that 15 years old then this service may just what you need to return your camera to functionality. If you check you will find that the foam seals and bumpers on you camera have turned into a gooey, sticky mess. Not only will the camera now leak light but these gooey seals and bumpers can really do serious permanent damage. Once this foam material starts to deteriorate it becomes corrosive and can actually eat in to the finish and paint of your camera and it can easily get onto the focusing screen permanently staining and marring it.

For $35.00 + $6.95 return shipping and handling I will completely remove all external deteriorated foam seal and bumper material and replace it with precisely fitted, better then OEM grade material.

FAQs

  • How important are these seals

They are crucial to the operation of your camera. The hinge and film rail seals insure that there are no light leaks and they also help prevent dust and humidity from reaching the film. The mirror bumper absorbs the shock of the mirror as it hits the end of its travel helping to eliminate vibration and preventing damage to the mirror itself.

  • How important is it that all traces of the old seals  be removed before new seals are installed

Absolutely crucial!. Once the foam material starts to deteriorate it not only becomes a sticky, gooey mess it actually becomes corrosive. The deteriorated foam material will actually blister the paint and finish on your camera and if it comes in contact with the focusing screen it can cause permanent staining and discoloration. Also if every trace of the old foam and adhesive is not removed poor adhesion of the new material will occur.

  • I see kits available on eBay so I will just do this myself

Yes, there are kits available and you might be able to do the job yourself but is it really worth it. First off you must remove every trace of the old material. In order to prevent damage to your camera the use of special tools is required and also solvents are needed to remove the old adhesive. Great care must be exercised to prevent this solvent from damaging the camera. One drop on the focusing screen or into the shutter can destroy your camera.

Secondly you must precisely cut the new material to just the right width and shape. Many people waste several of these kits before they give up in frustration. It is not nearly as easy to cut and fit these seals and bumpers as the sellers of these kits imply and many times the foam material they supply is an inferior or improper type.
ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL....EACH CAMERA MODEL REQUIRES PRECISELY CUT SEALS AND BUMPERS. Once you start you only get one chance to get it right as you can't reuse the foam.
